Hi and welcome to the Eternal Ingredients website and blog.

This is all new to us and we are excited to be launching our website today and thought we would tell you a little bit about the idea and the journey we have taken to bring you our brand new personalised cookbook website.

The idea for Eternal Ingredients started 4 years ago when I realised that we had a lost a number of my Grandma’s recipes, recipes we had grown up with and loved as children and adults. Somehow one of our beloved recipe boxes had been misplaced. When I realised this, I treasured the recipe tin I had inherited even more and started to try and make sense of some of the recipe cards inside the box. Things like Cook till cooked in a Mod oven really threw me. “How long is it going to take to cook?” I asked my mum, who had no more idea than I did. Anyway after much experimentation, most of the recipes have been deciphered and the millionaires  shortbread is being made again. It is now a firm favourite of my nieces, nephew, godson and his brother.

My family started asking for these recipes. Being a designer, I thought they should be put into a nicely bound cookbook which the whole family could have a copy of. Then I got to thinking, “if my family would love it, wouldn’t other families also love it too?”. And so  Eternal Ingredients was born.

The first step was to create my book and test out various binding methods. I worked closely with our trusted print manager and printer over the next 2 years working out the best binding methods, stocks, printing and colours. Each version got tried and tested in a number of kitchens until we settled on the final version being produced with a hidden wiro binding enabling it to be laid flat, in a book stand or folded back upon itself. Once we were happy the quality was right, we started to work on developing the website.

This is about the point where we had to come up with a name, which with all good ideas came to me in the middle of the night. Eternal Ingredients was chosen because we felt that it captured everything about who we are and what our website is doing for you, preserving your recipes for eternity. We locked in the name and I was told it was time to do the branding. Ever tried to do your own branding? Not easy and I struggled with it for a number of weeks. The sketch for the logo ended up being done while we were on holiday in Mexico, maybe the margaritas gave me the inspiration that I needed, that or my mind had been cleared as I was away from work and my computer.

Vicki, my trusted bestie, marketing guru and business all rounder started getting demanding at this point and over the past 6 months we have been busy working on the functionality for the website. Each time I thought we were there, I would be asked “would it be too much trouble to add this to the site”, always done with a  sweet smile and glass of wine passed to me, at which time I agreed to each and every request! Because of this we are very proud of the site we have developed and the functionality that it will offer you.

This is just the start of Eternal Ingredients. We have so many ideas and plans we have run out of paper to write them all down on.

We hope you enjoy creating your book and seeing the look of joy on peoples faces when you present them with their own personalised cookbook.

Happy cooking

Rachel
