Sausage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 kg sausage mince
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups fresh breadcrumbs
  • 80 ml Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbls tomato paste
  • 1 carrot, finely grated
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 ready rolled sheets puff pastry
  • 2 egg yolks, lightly beaten
  • Sesame seeds

Method

  • Using your hands, combine the mince, eggs, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, carrots and sea salt and freshly ground black pepper in a large bowl.
  • Cut the pastry sheets in half.
  • Divide the sausage mixture into 6 portions and roll each one into a sausage shape and place down the centre of the pastry.
  • Roll to enclose, placing the pastry seam underneath.
  • Cut each roll into three pieces and place on a baking tray.
  • Brush with the egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Place into a preheated oven at 200ºC and cook for 25 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
I wanted to make sausage rolls one Saturday as friends were coming round but I didn't have a recipe and I found this one on the Donna Hay website and as always tweaked it.
